Byck PTA

Enriching the lives of everyone involved at Byck!

PTA Committees:

As a PTA, we have several committees to help manage our much needed tasks and future plans to accomplish our mission.  Please review the committees and if you feel you have something you can offer to one of them, we would love to hear from you!  We embrace new members and welcome diversity.  There is NO reason not to join the PTA or one of these great committees. There is no cost, and no commitment, just join, learn and do what you can to help...if for nothing else that to offer a voice and advise!

Ever heard it takes a village to raise a child??....well it takes an active PTA to nurture an entire school!

GET INVOLVED!

How do you join?  It's simple!  Just email the committee chair-- send your name, email, phone number, best time to contact you then we will keep you in a email loop advising of updates, plans, etc.  So please, choose one that interests you and become a part of the team!

Byck Botanist Committee:

We are dedicated to creating an amazing garden experience for our kids.

We will host a gardening club called the "Byck Botanists" that will help to create, build and maintain 7 raised garden beds.

Club Motto:  "Better Agriculture than no Culture at all!"

Through gardening the children learn to see that the human being has a true relationship with the earth.   In our gardening  curriculum, our students learn the importance  of working in harmony with nature and their environment.  A gardening book is begun and kept as a  diary throughout the gardening year.

The lessons that the students learn will not only adhere to Waldorf philosophy, but also connect with Byck's core curriculum.

If you want to be a part of this committee, PLEASE contact Stephanie and she will be sure you are in the loop of all the meeting time/dates.

Waldorf Enrichment Committee:

The purpose of the Waldorf Enrichment Committee is to provide ongoing support to the Waldorf trained teachers and interested parents in concepts relating to Waldorf Educational Theory and Child Development to enhance the understanding of all parents, prospective parents, teachers and staff what it means to be a Waldorf Inspired Magnet.

We would like to see at least one parent per Waldorf class interested in assisting with special Waldorf projects from time to time to enrich the children's Waldorf experience.  We would love to see as many parents as possible join and enhance their Waldorf experience to be able to carry the Waldorf Philosophies from the school to the home.

For more information, please visit the Waldorf Enrichment Committee Website.
If you would like to join the committee, please email (click on the Contact Us Link) or call us!

Playground Committee:

Well, we got through Phase One and even Phase Two; a complete Playground System--complete with bridges, slides, interactive panels, etc.  Now we have to look to the other side of the building...the Pre-K space is in desperate need of a playground update/makeover.  Help us to complete the dream and give EVERY child a safe fun space to play on outdoors at our great school.

Phase Three is an ESSENTIAL part of the plan and we need your help!

We need people to help choose design, help with fund raising, and most importantly, to assist with writing grants and getting local corporate, government and community support!

Please click on the contact us link and let us know you're interested!

Dad's Club Committee

As many schools have recently began to recognize the importance of a father's role in a child's life, so have we at here at Byck.  We have been lucky enough to have several fathers involved with the PTA, but felt it was time to take that a step further and encourage more fathers to get involved. The purpose of this committee is to create opportunities for fathers to get more involved in their children's lives and education.  Studies have shown that Children that are raised with involved, responsible and committed fathers do better in school, life, and work! This Committee will find creative ways to strengthen relationships with their children, as well as to enrich all the youth at Byck!

All proceeds benefit directly the Byck Dad's Club and it's programs and events.

Earth Day Committee

As a Waldorf magnet at Byck, we are very in tune with nature and feel it is so very important to keep the children aware of environmental issues as well as creating ways for children to come up with their own ideas of how we can make the earth a more liveable place.  This committee is charged with creating new programs that create awareness of environmental distress and what we can do to help.  They are also to create contests and outlets to let the children creatively speak their mind or express themselves in a way that shows others that they care about the earth.  One example of this would be our "Litter Bug Contest" held Earth Day 2008 where the children created bugs and creatures from trash and recycleable materials in showing others that trash can be reused in so many different ways.  In this case, artistic ways.  They were later displayed in the Jefferson Mall to create awareness to more than just our school.  Other ways of showing that we care are organizing regular "Clean Up" days, where the kids and families at the school clean up around the school any trash to show we care and we don't believe in litter!  We look forward to the many new plans this committee will create in the future!

Teacher Appreciation Committee

This committee is set up to show the teachers how much we support them and care about them!  This committee plans fun and rewarding things for the teachers to feel our love!  They plan Teacher Appreciation Week, work to find local business donors that choose to honor our teachers, they decide what kind of gifts teachers will be given from the PTA for holidays and various reasons, they coordinate volunteers to distribute gifts, etc.  This is a very rewarding committee to be on because the teachers do so much for our children and it is a true blessing to give back to them!
